NCP Chairman Sharad Pawar said Tuesday that he will step down as party chairman. Shortly after this, the NCP workers began demanding that he withdraw his resignation.

However, after this, party leader Ajit Pawar told the workers that ‘Saheb will not withdraw his resignation and whatever decision he takes will be the right one.’

An important NCP meeting will take place on Friday where the next party chairman may be announced and Sharad Pawar may also change his position.

However, we spoke to some experts and tried to understand who the next NCP president could be.

In 1999, Sharad Pawar, Tariq Anwar and PA Sangma broke away from Congress. Sangma along with Pawar founded the Nationalist Congress Party. Since then, Sharad Pawar has been the chairman of the party.

Thus, answering the question of who will carry on his legacy, senior journalist Vijay Chormare says: “Ajit Pawar has repeatedly said that he is more interested in state politics.

He is not interested in the position of party president. That is why Supriya Sule can become the national chairperson of the party, because after a point she is not particularly interested in state politics.

He is happy with his parliamentary and national work.”

Ajit Pawar, Supriya Sule or someone else?

Political analyst Hemant Desai also agrees with Chormare.

He says: “It is difficult for Ajit Pawar to become president, because if this happens, he will have to change his tune.

Ajit Pawar has not been seen criticizing the BJP for some time.

Also, Ajit Pawar’s influence is not as much as Sharad Pawar’s. So I think Supriya Sule will carry forward the legacy of Sharad Pawar’s thoughts.”

Senior journalist Nikhil Wagle expressed a different opinion on a BBC Marathi programme.

According to him, Ajit Pawar is the number one in the party after Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar wants his uncle to retire. That is why Ajit Pawar will become the chairman of the party.

After announcing his resignation, Ajit Pawar asked the workers to calm down and stay away from the aggressive manner.

However, according to Chormare, he tried to appease the workers by acting as a mentor.

Questions that arise regarding the timing of resignation

Senior journalist Suresh Bhatewara, who has closely watched Sharad Pawar’s political career, takes a different view.

According to him, Sharad Pawar was criticized for expressing a positive opinion about Adani. That’s why he gave up not getting in the way of the party.

According to him, both Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule will not become president.

According to Bhatewara, Srinivas Patil could be the next president.

He says: “He has worked in many constitutional positions, he has extensive experience in politics and administration. So I think he is right for this position.”

A major question has been raised as to why Sharad Pawar has resigned now.

According to Hemant Desai, considering his health and age, it is appropriate to resign now.

Sanjay Awate, editor of Pune Lokmat, says: “The 2014 Lok Sabha elections changed the whole context. The NCP, which had been in power since its birth, came out of power.

Congress has suffered a loss at home. The situation also worsened in the state. However, Pawar tried to remain “relevant” in the new politics.

The last phase of his mentor Yashwantrao Chavan taught Pawar a lot.

Indira Gandhi, who was opposed by Yashwantrao, returned to power and Yashwantrao’s political career came to an end.

This did not happen with Pawar who opposed Sonia, as Sonia’s political capital was less.

The relevance of Pawar

But, Sharad Pawar is also cautious. No matter how the context changes, Pawar knows he has to stay ‘relevant’.

After forming his own party in defiance of a powerful party like Congress, he has been fighting despite being diagnosed with a disease like cancer.

However, the 2019 Lok Sabha elections changed the landscape. There was talk of the end of Sharad Pawar’s policy. People associated with Pawar left the party and started joining BJP.

But Pawar was not deterred. They came out of it. It appeared before ‘ED’. She campaigned while she got wet in the rain and then made the impossible possible.

Ajit Pawar ready to take power in his hand?

As soon as Sharad Pawar announced his retirement, an uproar started. Ajit Pawar’s body language showed that he was ready to take matters into his own hands.

Supriya Sule was prevented from speaking. Ajit Pawar was doing his best to pacify the workers.

At the same time, some of his words were also encouraging. Ajit Pawar snapped at the workers: “From time to time some decisions have to be made, and if in Saheb’s opinion a new president should be made, why don’t they want that?”

He also said that decision has already been made.

He said: “This job had to be done sooner or later. They were supposed to announce it on May 1, but there was a meeting yesterday. So today is the second date. They announced their decision. We will do what they said.” .” keep in mind.”

Supriya Sule kept a low profile in this whole affair. She sat among the workers with a seat that didn’t come directly into the camera angle.

Even when urged to speak, she was seen avoiding it. Even her mother didn’t want her to talk.

He warned them not to talk. Apart from this, Ajit Pawar asked him not to speak directly.

Although this behavior of Ajit Pawar shows that he is ready to seize power. But really it all depends on the decision that Sharad Pawar takes. Because he recently said it’s time to turn the roti around. They have even started the process of rotating the roti.

Suresh Bhatewada says that Sharad Pawar will not withdraw this decision, “because he has never retracted his statement to date. It does not appear that he is going to withdraw his resignation.”

But Balasaheb Thackeray resigned and withdrew to consolidate his power over the party. That is why it is speculated that even Sharad Pawar may withdraw his resignation.
