Melbourne. A council in Australia’s largest city, Sydney, canceled a Khalistan-proposed propaganda program next month due to security reasons. This information was given in media reports on Friday. The Australia Today newspaper has reported that, following the advice of security agencies, the council has withdrawn the permission granted to the group “Sikh for Justice” to hold an event in the city of Blacktown. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Sydney on May 24 to attend the Quad Summit, which will be hosted by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

The council said in a statement: “The council canceled this booking this morning as it is against council policy. According to the statement, the banners and posters of the program installed in the city have been removed due to lack of permission. The report added that the investigation against the Victoria-based group is also ongoing. The report quoted an official related to the matter as saying: “We are investigating in connection with the unaccounted money transaction.”

The development comes against the backdrop of the vandalization of the BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Mandir, a prominent Hindu temple in Sydney, last week. This new incident of damaging temples in the country was allegedly carried out by pro-Khalistan elements. Modi had raised the issue of frequent attacks on Hindu temples with Albanians during his visit to India in March and conveyed his concerns.
