Pimpri: The amount of e-waste is continuously increasing in the city of Pimpri-Chinchwad, which is considered an IT hub. Many citizens throw electronic waste in the trash. This creates a serious environmental problem. In view of this, E-Waste Recycling, Plastic Recycling cum Hobby Center has been established in Bhosari with the cooperation of Municipal Green Scape and ECA. Both organizations are collecting e-waste in different parts of the city. Within a quarter or two years, 3,962 kg of e-waste was collected, and citizens also began to pay per kg of e-waste.

The country’s famous IT parks such as Hinjewadi, Talwade have developed in the Pimpri-Chinchwad city area. In addition, the use of important devices such as mobile phones, laptops, and televisions by citizens has been increasing day by day. However, when these items become unusable, many people discard them. The current population of the city is around 30 lakhs. In accordance with the increase in population, e-waste is also continuously increasing. Due to the lack of recycling of electronic waste, the environmental problem is also becoming serious. That is why the e-waste collection campaign has been carried out in the city for the past few years through the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and some environmentally friendly social organizations.

Giving information about this, Green Scape boss Rupesh Kadam said that e-waste is collected via two vehicles in different parts of the city. Citizens should collect e-waste and give it to us. An agency has been designated for this. The e-waste is paid to citizens from the month of April. Accordingly, payment has been initiated at a rate of Rs 10 per kg for laptop, refrigerator, TV, air conditioner and Rs 8 per kg for other waste. Citizens are paid on the spot when e-waste is delivered. Along with this, e-waste will be collected, reused, recycled and disposed of in a scientific way.

The Hinjewadi and Talwade areas of the city have reputable IT companies. Engineers probably have a lot of e-waste. Hinjewadi IT Engineer lives in the localities of Wakad, Ravet, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav. Talwade IT Engineers are located in Nigdi, Pradhikaran, Sambhajinagar, Chinchwad and other areas. Rupesh Kadam said that on the engineers’ holiday i.e. Saturday and Sunday, camps will be arranged in these areas for e-waste collection.

Donated to those in need by repairing 600 laptops

The e-waste collection campaign has been carried out in the past also through Green Scape, ECA, including the Municipal Corporation and other social organizations in the city. It has repaired and distributed 600 repairable laptops and computers. In this, 150 laptops have been distributed to the municipal schools of the district and 450 to the schools of Zilla Parishad. Repairable laptops and computers will be repaired and given to those in need. Refrigerators, washing machines, fans, microwaves, air conditioners, CD-DVD players, home theaters, computers, flash drives, headphones, printers, digital cameras, mobile phones, chargers, televisions, laptops, video cameras, etc. The waste is deposited in the centro.es.
