Thane: Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have arrested five people for kidnapping a 38-year-old doctor and extorting Rs 30 lakhs from him. An officer gave this information. He said that this doctor was riding his scooter on October 22, 2022 when a person asked him for a ride.

According to him, after traveling some distance, the man’s accomplices also arrived there and allegedly blindfolded the doctor and took him in a car to a forest in Saralgaon in the Murbad area. Chief Inspector Prasad Pandhare of the Murbad Police Station said the defendant called the doctor’s wife and allegedly demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakhs before releasing her.

He said that 25 days after the incident, the doctor filed a complaint with the police. He said that the police team identified the defendants a few days ago and arrested them on Saturday. Pandhare said the reason behind the crime has yet to be determined. A local court sent the accused into police custody until April 26, he said. (agency)
