Nagpur, After studying in municipal schools, many students after doing IAS have reached the position of secretary in the state government services. Despite this, Marathi medium primary schools are being neglected. A public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court on behalf of All India Poor Social Development Resource regarding the closure of 23 out of 53 schools. During the hearing on the petition, it was said on behalf of the petitioner that out of the 34 Marathi schools that were closed due to the lack of availability of the required students, 3 schools were opened on an experimental basis, but these 3 schools were not taken seriously by the Municipal Corporation. During the hearing, a request was made on behalf of the Government Education Department, Divisional Commissioner, District Magistrate and Municipal Corporation to allow time to file the affidavit. Judge Atul Chandurkar and Judge MW Chandwani agreed to this and ordered to file an affidavit within 3 weeks. Lawyer Ashutosh Dharmadhikari appeared on behalf of the petitioner.

Effect on daughter’s education

The petitioner has said in the petition that, on the one hand, the slogan of Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao is taking place all over the country and, on the other hand, the closure of the Marathi middle schools of the Municipal Corporation is negatively affecting the girls in particular. During the hearing, the court’s attention was drawn to the presentation of a document in the name of the lawyer Dharmadhikari, in which he reported the information taken by the president of the institution. According to this, so far the information on the closure of 23 schools in the area of ​​the municipality was given by the administration. The petitioner said that in this context, a memorandum was also presented to the Municipal Corporation on several occasions, but it was ignored. However, I was forced to knock on the door of the High Court.

Antisocial elements continue to camp

Citing the news published in the newspapers, the court was told that due to the indifference of the administration, these schools are being closed. Even the state of the schools has deteriorated due to the lack of attention from the government and the municipal corporation.

The condition is that some schools are running, but anti-social elements continue to camp on the premises. Stray animals camp out in some schools.

The court was told that in the last 5 years there has been a large decrease in the number of municipal schools, while according to the committee’s report, there is an increase in the number of teachers.
