South Korean and US forces to hold joint exercises despite North Korean threat

North Korea will respond to upcoming US-South Korean drills with Provocative Missile Tests and fiery statements, describing the drills as a rehearsal for invasion.

seoul. The South Korean and US militaries said Friday they would hold annual large-scale military exercises this month. The two militaries have decided to hold military exercises despite North Korea warning against such exercises and threatening dire consequences. North Korea is suspected of responding to upcoming exercises by South Korea and the United States with provocative missile tests and fiery statements, describing it as a rehearsal for invasion.

South Korea and the US military said at a joint press conference that they will hold the ‘Freedom Shield’ exercise (a computer command-based exercise) from March 13 to 23 to strengthen their defense and counter-attack capabilities. Both militaries said the exercise will focus on North Korean aggression, lessons learned from recent conflicts and the changing security environment.

“The South Korea-US alliance will carry out the FS (Freedom Shield) exercise to prepare against possible provocations from the North Korean military,” said Colonel Lee Sung Joon, spokesman for the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff. Countries will answer “totally”. against any possible provocation from North Korea. US Army spokesman Colonel Isaac K Taylor said the two countries will also hold a large-scale joint exercise called ‘Warrior Shield FTX’ to enhance their ability to execute missions.
