Councilors were protesting the delay in the election of six members of the standing committee. Previously, the mayoral election was held here. In which Aam Aadmi Party candidate Shaili Oberoi won the mayoral election. At the same time, Party candidate Aam Aadmi won the Deputy Mayor election.
At the Delhi Municipal Corporation, Bharatiya Janata Party councilors created an uproar over the delay in conducting the vote in the House. BJP councilors were seen reciting Hanuman Chalisa at home due to the delay in the corporation meeting after the mayoral election. Along with this, the BJP also accused the AAP of running away from the standing committee elections.

It should be noted that the mayoral and vice mayoral elections were held approximately two and a half months after the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MDC) elections. In which the Aam Aadmi Party won. Shaili Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party defeated Rekha Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Oberoi defeated Gupta by a margin of 34 votes. Whereas, in the vice-mayoral election, Aale Mohammad Iqbal of the Aam Aadmi Party defeated Kamal Bagdi of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 31 votes.
