Gardening at the Gulag – back garden diaries

This has been a slow transformation from dull shrub/lawn combo, through builder’s depot to much less lawn and many more flowering plants.

I’ve taken photos from the same spot since 2021 which makes me stop and acknowledge how far it’s come and how much work has gone into it so far.

Peeling back the tarpaulins and laying fresh turf was the start of this journey. Then the Mum and Sons’ Pergola project and behind that the polytunnel and greenhouse. In the end, I paid someone else to dismantle and rebuild the greenhouse; I call it an investment!

You’ll see I’ve been whittling away the grass – a new walkway to the pergola is under construction.

I’m looking forward to pottering in the tunnel and greenhouse this year.
