Houseplants don’t usually have a long life in my house.  Combine a north-facing Living room and either over-attentive care or complete neglect, most don’t usually stand a chance and I gave up quite some time ago.  But then house plants and their pots got a lot more interesting and I started thinking there had to be something that could cope with the conditions on offer.  I have a large dracaena that’s still doing well almost two years on and a spider plant that’s hanging on but is happier now it has a respite week or two on the kitchen window sill.

I’ve recently become interested in succulents, although not for my living room.  I’ve managed to grow aeoniums, agaves and echeverias from seed sourced from Chiltern Seeds.  They featured in a post last October and have had a growth spurt in the last month. Not the echeveria, that seems to be lingering but I’m hoping it will enjoy it new grittier environment.

I bought these sempervivums from an Ebay seller as ‘chicks’.  It’s interesting to note the differing growth rates when they all started at much the same size.

It looks like I might be able to divide some of the aeoniums; not because I need to but to see if I can.  This may become addictive…
