The rise of online streaming (and cheap DVDs) has led to the phenomenon of ‘binge-watching’ – instead of watching one or two episodes a day, people are now watching entire seasons of their favourite TV shows in one sitting. To keep up with the trends, here is our top ten list of the TV shows that are most commonly binged:

10. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

We all know about Buffy, even if we haven’t watched her slay vampires. Beginning in 1997 and stretching to seven seasons, Buffy the Vampire Slayer follows a group of young people as they (spoiler!) slay vampires, cast magic, and try to live their lives.

9. Keeping up with the Kardashians

This family of famous women first came to our screens in 2007 and is now on to its sixth season. While there is a lot of talk about the family being famous ‘for being famous’, the show is a little deeper than that – we promise!

8. Orphan Black

Orphan Black first came to our screens in 2013, and is entering its fourth season this year. It’s a cross between a science-fiction show and a thriller, and will really keep you on your toes!

7. Deadwood

Much like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Deadwood has been off our screens for a while – nearly 10 years in fact! Premiering in 2004, this historical series, set during the 1870s gold rush, lasted for two series, until it finished in 2006.

6. Mad Men

Inspiring clothes and makeup since it first appeared on our screens in 2007, this has always been a favourite for streaming sessions, but since the series ended in 2015, you can relax and catch up without fear of spoilers.

5. House of Cards

House of Cards shows us that politicians will do whatever it takes to get to the top – but then, we already knew that, didn’t we? The show began in 2013, and a fourth season was broadcast on Netflix in March of this year.

4. The Walking Dead

Since 2010, viewers have been able to tune in for a weekly dose of horror, gore and genuine human emotion. The sixth series finale aired on 3rd April this year, with a seventh series confirmed on its way.

3. Orange is the New Black

Loosely based on the book of the same name, Orange is the New Black first appeared in 2013. The third series finished showing in 2015, but fans need not fear – as of early 2016, three more seasons have been commissioned.

2. Game of Thrones

No list would be complete without a mention of Game of Thrones! Following the hit fantasy book series from George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones started in 2011, and shows no signs of slowing down. The new series will be broadcast in late April.

1. Breaking Bad

Following the life of one Walter White as he tries to support his family through a life of crime, deceit and meth production, Breaking Bad ran from 2008 to 2013, when the grand finale aired.
