Important Rules For Indian Rummy You Need to Know




This blog will tell you all about the Indian Rummy game rules. The Indian rummy is played between 2 to 6 players. According to Indian rummy rules, every player is dealt 13 cards. One card is randomly selected as the wild Joker and all the other cards of the value become wild Joker in the game. 

Basic Indian Rummy Rule

On their turn each player needs to pick a card from either the closed deck or the open deck. After drawing one card from any of the two decks, the player has to discard one of his cards. The cards in the closed deck are placed face down, whereas the cards in the open deck are kept face up. 
For a player to win the rummy game, all 13 cards have to be arranged in sequences, or sequences and sets. The first player to make a valid declaration wins. 

What’s a sequence and how to make it?

A group of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit is called a sequence. Sequences are of two kinds, pure and impure. 

Pure Sequence 

Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit forms a pure sequence. A Joker card can’t replace any card here. Also, it is a mandatory combination required to make a valid declaration. 

Impure Sequence


 Using two or more sequential cards along with a Joker can be used to make an impure sequence. The Joker acts as a replacement for the missing card in the sequence. 

What’s a Set and how to works in rummy?

Three or four cards of the same rank but different suits form a set. A set cannot have more than one card from a suit. One or more Jokers can replace any other card(s) in a set. Joker Card In an Indian rummy game there are two types of Jokers. 

Printed Joker:

 As the name suggests a card where the picture of a Joker is there is called the printed joker. It can be used as a replacement for any missing card and can help to form a set or an impure sequence. 

Wild Joker: 

A wild joker card is randomly picked at the beginning of the game. Just like the printed Joker, the wild Joker can also be used as a replacement for any missing card and can form an impure sequence or a set. While a wild Joker can be used in a pure sequence as well but here it must be used in its original value and as a card of its original suit, not as a substitute card/Joker.

Declaration in online rummy game:


In rummy game nobody allowed to see each other's cards before declaration. Declare in rummy means that you have to show your arranged cards on the table for the other players to see. Players in the game will check the combinations you have made and whether they are valid as per rummy declare rules or it is invalid declaration.

Valid Declaration 

To win in a rummy game, arrange all your 13 cards in sequences, or sequences and sets. End the game by getting rid of one of your cards and declaring your hand. Make a valid declaration to win. The winner’s score is zero. A valid declaration must have at least one pure sequence. Along with a pure sequence, a player needs to form a second sequence, which can be a pure sequence or an impure sequence. Forming two sequences is mandatory, but more than two sequences can also be made. Forming sets is optional.

Invalid Declaration
