I started playing this little mobile game called Marvel Snap since March 2023 (the Days of Future Past season) and I’ve been quite hooked since! I hit Infinite Rank by my fourth season. I’ve hit Infinite rank multiple times since then, each one with a different Deck. Since Marvel Snap is a live service game that is undergoing continuous development, the competition continues to evolve. New cards get introduced in the game, and existing cards can sometimes be changed for better or for worse. As time goes by, these old decks may see significant changes. I’ve decided to write about these decks since I’m a sentimental guy and I want to capture these moments. For November 2023, I used the Grey Guardians Deck.

Deck Details

Infinite Deck Name: Grey Guardians

Season Used: Higher, Further, Faster (November 2023)

Card List: Nebula, Nightcrawler, Daredevil, Jeff, Elsa Bloodstone, Jean Grey, Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Drax, Professor X, Gamora, Alioth

Win Condition: Force your opponent to play in Jean Grey’s location while you build Power in other locations.

How it Works: With Jean Grey and Professor X, you can control where your opponent can play his cards.

Card Roles: 

1. Nebula – Play away from Jean Grey. Builds Power as your opponent is unable to play at her location.
2. Nightcrawler – Can be played at the Jean Grey location then moved elsewhere later.
3. Daredevil – Lets you see your opponent’s Turn 5 plays.
4. Jeff – Can be played at the Jean Grey location then moved elsewhere later.
5. Elsa Bloodstone – Buffs each card that fills a location.
6. Jean Grey – Forces the first card to played each turn at her location.
7. Shang-Chi – Destroys cards with 10 or more Power.
8. Ms. Marvel – Adds 5 Power to adjacent locations that meet her requirements.
9. Drax – Gains Power when opponent plays a card at the same location.
10. Professor X – Seals a location completely.
11. Gamora – Gains Power when opponent plays a card at the same location.
12. Alioth – Destroys any unrevealed cards at its location.

Deck Strategies

The Early Game: The goal of Grey Guardians is to get your opponent to play in Jean Grey’s lane. Playing Nebula and Jean Grey in different locations will help Nebula get some extra Power especially if your opponent plays on curve. Nebula on a location is also great for locking up with Professor X later on.

Movers and Boosters: With the Grey Guardians deck, you will also be forced to play cards on the Jean Grey location. Playing low cost movers like Nightcrawler and Jeff will allow you to fill up Jean’s lane while also being able to play in other locations. If Nightcrawler or Jeff are the last cards played in Jean’s location, Elsa Bloodstone can buff their Power. When played in the middle location, Ms. Marvel can add 5 Power to the left and right locations for as long as you meet her criteria.

Guardians Closers: With Jean’s ability, it will be easy to trigger the abilities of Drax and Gamora. Both will gain Power when the opponent plays a card at the same location they’re played at. Gamora can become as big as most 6-Cost cards in the game. Elsa can even make them more Powerful. You can even play Gamora and a 1-Cost card on Turn 6.

Other Tips: In case you don’t draw the needed cards, the Grey Guardians deck has alternate winning plays. You can make use of Daredevil’s ability to lock a location down with Professor X. Alioth and Shang Chi are greats card to guarantee your win in another location.

Deck Evolution

What’s Changed in This Deck? So many cards in the Grey Guardians deck has been changed significantly. Elsa Bloodstone used to give +3 Power and was a 2-Cost card. Now she only gives +2 Power and is a 3-Cost card, which alters play lines. Ms. Marvel used to require only 1 Card but you now need two cards of different costs in a location before she can boost it. Professor X was nerfed to just 1 Power. And Alioth was changed completely – now it only removes abilities of unrevealed cards instead of destroying them completely. Drax was given additional Power and Gamora had adjustments, but

What’s Changed in the Meta? New cards also shook the meta up quite drastically. InSheNaut became dominant with Leech, which killed most Turn 6 and 7 plays. High Power cards like Cull Obsidian, Skaar, and Mockingbird, were introduced in the game. Annihilus Junk had Selene, which can turn Professor X into a -2 Power card. Thanos decks were on the rise, and they could easily get around Jean Grey’s ability thanks to playing just Infinity Stones at her location.

Conclusion

The Grey Guardians deck was never a top meta deck and in the next season, this deck could only get me into the 90s. Most of the Guardians characters received buffs so this deck concept is still viable. But I would say it requires a lot of skill and experience to pilot this deck into Infinite. I still see people get to Infinite using some variation of the Grey Guardians deck but I never got the chance to try it again as there were other decks that helped me get to Infinite. But the deck concept is not that complicated, so anyone should definitely give it a try.
