Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Guide – Tips & Tricks

Having some trouble combatting enemies in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor? Here is a guide to help you through the galactic warfare.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the latest Star Wars title in the gaming world that arrived on April 28, 2023. It is the sequel to 2019’s The Fallen Order and is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S and PC.

You are probably enjoying what I feel is the best Star Wars game of all time, but it’s also fair to say that some of you guys are probably struggling during combat – leaving you occasionally frustrated. But not to fret; I am here to help you out. Stick around; below are a few tips and tricks that are definitely working for me in battles and may help you to tackle even the toughest enemies and boss fights, as well as decrease your stress levels.

Parrying and Blocking

Master these mechanics because they’re two vital features. Most enemy attacks can be blocked, and holding the LB button to do so. Also, executing the parry action at the right time will aid in successfully taking down enemies, regardless of their toughness.

Right before an enemy attack, click the LB button, and you’ll deflect their attack, leaving them temporarily stunned, lose some health or be eliminated. With some enemies (especially the weaker ones), doing this will give you the option to immediately perform a finisher – do so by pressing the X and shifting the left analog stick to any direction to perform different animations.

Dodging

This action is also vital. To dodge, simply press the B button and the left analog stick of where you wish to shift to—a very helpful mechanism, including when evading attacks from enemies that glow red right before they strike. Pay attention to when an enemy is glowing because that means blocks and parries are useless, and dodging is the only alternative. Here’s another tip – if you’re not great at deflecting, then I would advise you to use this function more often.

Change Your Stances

You’ll be happy to know – Star Wars Jedi: Survivor provides more depth and versatility to your gameplay with a fine set of lightsaber stances for you to choose from. I found that I was going to stumble across many different enemies, so it was best to assign different stances more often.

All stances have their own stats and combatting advantages and disadvantages. So I had to strategise which ones to use in certain battles;  yes, including boss fights. For more in-depth descriptions of each stance, the best place to go is on my Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Xbox Series X review. To assign them, you need to go to a workstation or a meditation point.

Switch Stances During Fights

Now that you’ve learned how to assign stances, you will now need to know how to swap both chosen stances. Simply click either the left or right direction buttons to draw out the assigned stances. Some of you may not do this, but it’s actually important to swap stances during battles because, most times, you’ll be fighting different caliber enemies. So, using just one may not work in your favour, so mixing it up more often does wonders.

Skills Tree

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has three skill trees, which are: Survival, Lightsaber, and Force – and because Cal is a Jedi now, the trees contain an abundance of unique abilities and new ones that you will need to unlock as you progress. You can unlock them at meditation points.

Rest After Each Tough Battle

Speaking of mediation points, in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, there are so many located around each planet. You’ve just completed a tough fight, and you need somewhere to save progress. This is where meditation points come in. But at the same time, when you reach one, it’s best to select the ‘Rest’ option, as it will restore your health, stim count, and force meter. But this feature comes with a trade – the enemies you’ve battled will also respawn, so be very cautious of which meditation point you rest on.

Use Perks

This is also a new feature in the franchise, and they impact your performance, especially during battles. You will unlock this feature as you progress the story, and you’ll initially go with three slots and the number increases. Although, some perks will require two slots. 25 perks in total can be collected, and they all have their own special advantage to help your game. You can assign and swap your perks at meditation points and select the ‘abilities’ option.

Sometimes Two Heads Are Better Than One

In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, you can fight with allies. Their AI is sharp, so you are really getting a helping hand in some of the most difficult battles. Not only that, but you can also command them to perform attacks on enemies. Hold down the RB button and then click Y, B, X or A to perform their different attacks on enemies. But be warned, when you use an ally’s ability, they need a little time to recharge while they’re fighting.

Read The Tactical Guides

Star Wars Jedi: Survivors’ tactical guides give insights on information such as how to take down enemies. The guide displays enemies’ profiles, as well as their strengths and weaknesses, some facts about them and so on. But actually, take the time to read them, and they really do help you to strategise your attacks and defences. But there is just one thing – you need to take out one of each enemy’s kind to be able to scan and unlock the profiles.
