Capcom Officially Confirmed the Development of Dragon’s Dogma 2

During the Dragon’s Dogma 10th Anniversary Digital Celebration, the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2 was officially announced by Hideaki Itsuno.

Hideaki Itsuno, the director of Dragon’s Dogma, made the announcement today in the “10 Years of Dragon’s Dogma” Developer Video that the much-awaited sequel to Dragon’s Dogma is currently in development utilizing Capcom’s RE ENGINE. Dragon’s Dogma is a role-playing video game set in a high-fantasy universe with open-world action.

This much-awaited unveiling came after a discussion of the ideas that sparked the creation of the game’s monsters, combat, and other distinctive gameplay elements. The long-awaited continuation of the series was revealed with the presentation of the title’s official logo.

Itsuno started the developer video by telling the story of how he was first exposed to the high fantasy subgenre and RPGs in general by playing traditional pen-and-paper role-playing games. Itsuno acquired a liking for arcade and action games, particularly the fighting in Capcom’s Street Fighter II after these early encounters left a lasting impression on him and his heart. Itsuno had already created many games for Capcom’s arcade division by 2000.

At that point, he started putting together the initial thoughts for a game that would ultimately become Dragon’s Dogma. However, because Itsuno was tasked with completing the creation of Devil May Cry 2 and its successors, Devil May Cry 3 and Devil May Cry 4, this desire would have to be put on hold.

Itsuno finally went back to his pet project once the creation of the Devil May Cry games had wrapped up. However, the game’s one-of-a-kind Pawn System helped solidify Dragon’s Dogma’s position as a fan favorite. Dragon’s Dogma already stood out from its contemporaries because of its novel approach to magic battles and the ability to grapple enemies who were in towering positions.

Itsuno’s intention was to retain the game as a single-player experience, yet, he wanted to provide players the opportunity to feel linked to one another by enabling them to share the AI friends they develop and train. This unusual mechanism was the result of his efforts. The excursions that members of the production team took to the United Kingdom throughout the game’s development provided the impetus for the landscape of rolling hills and distinctive buildings that players would discover.

While Itsuno was finishing up his retrospective on the history of Dragon’s Dogma, he surprised the fans by revealing Dragon’s Dogma 2, which provided them with their first glance at what the future holds for the game. Itsuno and the rest of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 production team, including seasoned Dragon’s Dogma developers Daigo Ikeno and Kenichi Suzuki, are now putting in a lot of effort to create the sequel; they are thrilled about the prospect of revealing more information soon.
