Stone Core: Earth-Themed Character Options

Publisher: Dungeon Masters Guild

Theme

The theme of this supplement is elemental earth, with Stone, history, and sand being the most common manifestations of this theme. For example, the paladin’s Oath of the Fortress and the monk’s Way of the Breathing Mountain tradition both exemplify stone. They are tough, defensive melee fighters who benefit from planting themselves in the middle of combat and taking blows instead of their allies. While the druid’s Circle of Fossils and bard’s College of Petroglyphs are both connected to history, with the bard’s muse and abilities revolving around ancient art and language, the druid can transform themselves and others into the skeletal stone monsters of the past. The physical damage types are common, from the crushing might of stone to the slicing edges of glass, to the slow grinding of sand. Each subclass was designed to give a fun, balanced, and unique experience that is not already an option or would not be easy to do with official content.

Likewise, the feats, fighting styles, eldritch invocations, and artificer infusions all relate to elemental earth in some way. From resistance to a desert lifestyle to tunneling through solid stone, to curing poison with clay, to skin that hardens like stone when you are not in motion.

Character Options Supplement Features

Organization

Each item in the tome is alphabetized with the other items of its type, with a fully hyperlinked table of contents for easy navigation.

In addition, each subclass has its own page for easy copy/pasting and snipping.

Connections

Each Character Options Supplement has a tome from the Tomes of Melchior series that goes with it, with this one being connected to Primordial Powers - The Tomes of Melchior I: Elemental Spells. Certain subclasses within this book gain access to spells from that supplement, but don't worry if you don't own it. Each subclass with such a reference has an optional list of spells drawn entirely from the player's handbook. If you are interested, the links are below.

Design Goals

The goal of these books is to add new subclasses, feats, fighting styles, and eldritch invocations for both the players and NPCs that are fun, unique, and balanced. The contents of this book are not mean to overshadow or replace the official content, just add a greater variety for fun combinations, characters, and interesting encounters. In addition, unless there are very specific limitations on your campaign setting, all the contents are designed to be setting-neutral, so they can be dropped in with no problems.

Balance especially is very important to me. I am a strong believer that unbalanced content will almost always reduce the fun at a table. Due to this, I have done everything I can to ensure the supplements are balanced with the official content’s level of power.

About Me

I am a just about forever-DM with well over 10k hours invested in the D and amp;D 5e edition system. I’ve created and ran multiple homebrewed campaigns in several homebrew settings, and thusly have a lot of experience creating content for D and amp;D 5e. A lot of these spells started as just fun ideas I wanted to introduce to my players, but eventually I decided that I’d like to spread them to other tables, with the hope that they will enjoy them as much as my players did.
