Difference Between b450 and x470 Motherboards

The comparison between Motherboard chipsets has been going on since don’t know when. The question gets stirred up again and again whenever there is a news of new chipset release. However, there are some evergreen comparisons that go on for quite a while and we are going to discuss one of them here.

Both B450 and X470 chipset motherboards are AMD’s high-performance chipsets. These two types are one of the hot topics among PC users. What is the difference between b450 and x470 motherboards? Or What should I buy?- B450 or X470 or these types of questions are everywhere. Moreover, the new AMD zen release has made it more complex as to Will those CPUs be compatible with these motherboards? It is compatible with all the latest Ryzen releases especially Ryzen 5 processor. Though AMD has confirmed that they will be compatible, it is our responsibility to choose the perfect one that can be more compatible.

B450 Motherboard

The B450 motherboard is AMD’s AM4 socket motherboard. Many PC builders and users believe it to be one of the best mid-range motherboards. B450 motherboard offers mostly preferable features. That’s why it is called a versatile motherboard and it is compatible with all the latest CPU releases of AMD. It is affordable and one of the best budget motherboards of AMD Ryzen. It supports AMD Zen 2 and 3 processors. It has got 4x Pcie 3.0 lanes and 6 x usable PCIe zen2 slots. Though it has only two SATA3 ports, it is enough to run your PC well. It can overclock well and offers pretty good performances.

X470 Motherboard

AMD’s most powerful motherboard, X470 is currently taking the lead with its exceptional features. This one is also of an AM4 socket like a B450 motherboard. It is the most powerful chipset AMD can offer right now. It also features 4 x PCIe 3.0 lanes and 8 x usable PCIe Zen2 slots. However, it has got two more SATA3 ports than B450. It supports SLI, though it does not increase the performance significantly. And yes, it supports overclocking and offers powerful performances altogether. The price is a bit high considering all the features and performances. The X470 also supports AMD Zen 2 and 3 processors.

B450 VS X470

Both B450 and X470 come from the AMD AM4 line and have their own fanbase. However, this question always gets aroused as to which one is better and has better value than the other one. There is a slight difference in their features, though most enthusiasts don’t care about that. The more care about the performance, durability, and ability to provide certain performances. Both these motherboards are still some of the best mid-range motherboards that the latest releases did not subdue. The latest ones offer PCIe Gen 4.0 that many old and good processors don’t feature and that’s another reason why you should consider buying these mobos.

Let’s talk about their slight differences and decide whether B450 is better or X470 is.

The B450 and X470 both support AMD Zen 2 processors and Zen 3 as well if you include the BIOS update. Both of them got 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0 which is also the same feature. The only difference is the X470 features four SATA III ports whereas B450 features two. Also, the X470 supports the SLI technology that connects multiple GPUs, though it does not increase that much difference between the two chipsets. Both of them support overclocking that most motherboard chipset does not offer. Though the price of B450 is affordable and X470 is a little higher, it is reasonable.
