Mikaela Mayer vs. Erica Farias – Betting Odds

This Saturday, at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, Erica Farias will face Mikaela Mayer, one of the boxers of the moment, looking to snatch the WBO super featherweight world title, Argentina’s Erica La Pantera Farias, former lightweight, and super lightweight world champion will have a new and great opportunity this Saturday, June 19, when she faces one of the best boxers of the moment, American Mikaela Mayer, in what will be her first title defense since she won the belt last October. The undefeated champion is looking to unify the division. Farias is looking to reclaim the gold and has an extensive resume when it comes to world title fights. The bout will be televised by Canal Space and ESPN starting at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Let’s review the current events of both fighters before Saturday’s fight:

Mikaela Mayer: Mayer had her first world title fight last October when she fought Ewa Brodnicka for the vacant WBO title. Ewa came in overweight, but that didn’t stop Mayer from winning. The top 10 pound-for-pound female fighter would go on to win that fight dominantly by beating Brodnicka by unanimous decision with scores of 100-88, 100-88, and 99-89.

Mayer has had a public feud with WBC junior lightweight champion Terri Harper and wants to fight her. Not only would it settle a grudge, but it would also unify two titles. Unfortunately, Mayer will have to wait longer for this opportunity. WBA champion Hyun Mi Choi is set for a unification fight with Harper once Terri’s hand recovers from an injury she suffered in their last fight, so, that leaves Mayer with the potential to fight IBF champion Maiva Hamadouche next. Mikaela has said that Top Rank Promotions is working with Matchroom to make this fight a reality.

Erica Farias: Farias is a former two-division world champion with 14 world title fights on her resume. She is a very talented and durable veteran who has twice as many professional bouts as Mayer. Farias’ first title reign lasted from 2011 to 2014 when she was WBC lightweight champion. She lost the title to Delfine Persoon in April 2014 by unanimous decision with scores of 93-96, 92-96, 92-96, 92-96. Farias has deducted two points for using his head during that contest. She would then move up to super-lightweight where she ended up defeating Alejandra Marina Oliveras in November 2014 by split decision. Farias would hold that belt until 2018 when she lost to Jessica McCaskill by unanimous decision with scores of 93-97, 92-98, and 94-96.

During that last title run, Farias also moved up to welterweight to fight Cecilia Braekhus for the undisputed crown but came up short in that quest as she lost by unanimous decision, considering Erica’s last fight was in October 2019 when she rematched Jessica McCaskill. This time it was closed as she lost by majority decision 94-94, 91-97, 92-96. 10 of her 26 professional wins have been by TKO / KO.
