Tomb Raider

The original Tomb Raider was launched on October 25, 1996, and is one of the top-selling games for PC, Sega Saturn, and PlayStation and also the best-selling Tomb Raider game till 2013, which was when its newer version was launched. Since 1996, Lara Croft and her signature dual pistols have left the world in awe. The graphics that the Tomb Raider has right now might seem outdated. However, during the 90s era, the 3D format was considered to be out-of-the-world.

Tomb Raider II

The Tomb Raider II was launched on November 21, 1997, and is considered to be the successor of the original series. The game was heavily inspired by the original series and was expanded by introducing more features to enhance the overall experience.

The changes were made with regard to the graphics, weapons, and gameplay mechanics that made the game feel more immersive and dynamic. However, the Tomb Raider II does not differ a lot from the original one as it revolves around exploring different places and puzzles.

Tomb Raider III

The Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft was released on November 20, 1998. The game has a lot of different locations all over the world but does not revolve around exploration and puzzles like the other two. The Tomb Raider III did come with even improved graphics but not any substantial changes. A majority of the game takes place underwater and that is the reason why it received its share of criticism.

Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation

On November 22, 1999, the world was introduced to Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation which was pretty much in line with its predecessors. This was when people started calling Tomb Raider boring and unchanging. In this series, Lara is shown to explore the tomb of the Egyptian God Set and she accidentally sets the deity free and the Evil God haunts the country again.

Tomb Raider (Game Boy Color)

The Tomb Raider Game Boy Color felt like a downgrade as compared to the first four games. This 2D gaming platform was anyway a big deal as it was the first time Tomb Raider was launched for a portable console. However, despite the massive difference and poor graphics, Tomb Raider (Game Boy Color) was well-appreciated by the gamers.

Tomb Raider Chronicles

Tomb Raider Chronicles made its debut in 2000 on PlayStation, Dreamcast, and Windows. It is the successor of Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation. In this series, a couple of friends attend Lara Croft’s memorial at the very famous Croft mansion and discuss her tales of adventures which leads to a series of flashbacks.

And eventually, the players go through a multitude of levels, solve riddles and puzzles, and defeat their enemies. Not just that, the Tomb Raider Chronicles series suggests that Lara Croft might be breathing below the ruins of the Great Pyramid.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is often considered to be the changing point of the Tomb Raider series and was launched in 2010. It was a top-down game that emphasised on 2-player cooperative play but could also be played by a single-player. This series was executed exceptionally well by the developers and received beautiful reviews by gamers and critics all over the world.

Tomb Raider (2013)

The Tomb Raider 2013 was an actual reboot of the original Tomb Raider and was simply called Tomb Raider. This reboot featured a cover system, laid emphasis on realism, a crafting system, and a lot of other such things, and took place on a stranded Japanese island. This game was bloodier and included a lot more action as compared to the previous Tomb Raider games; this one was far more realistic. However, this reboot had a lot fewer puzzles and a lot more action.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris

The Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris was launched on December 9, 2014 and is a sequel to the Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. This series was more focused on the multiplayer gaming experience and had four characters and all of them had different weapons and skills. The game was very similar to Lara Croft and the Temple of Light and had a fixed-perspective isometric camera and a co-op mode but did not have any significant changes.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

The Rise of the Tomb Raider was a sequel to the Tomb Raider (2013) reboot and did not have a massive fan following. The developers played it pretty safe by not making any notable changes and innovations. The plot of the game failed to make a great impression.
