Uber the ride-hailing app, after achieving the enormous success worldwide is now all set to start Uber Air’s helicopter ride. This is really an exciting moment for Uber, for the future of cities in Australia and of course for Melbourne.

Melbourne will be the first city outside the US to host trials of Uber Air. It’s a service that the company describes as aerial ridesharing. This aerial ridesharing service will shuttle people from one rooftop to another for the price of an UberX.

As per the announcement soon uber will begin a pilot program testing the vehicles in Melbourne. It has been selected to be the San Francisco-based company’s first international market for Uber Air. It’s joining the Dallas and Los Angeles as cities to trial and launch Uber Air flights within the next few years.

The main aim to start this flying taxi is to connect transport hubs like the airport to central city sites.

In august company announced five possible markets to launch its pipedream: Australia, Brazil, France, India, and Japan.

As stated by the rideshare company test flights are due to start from 2020 and plans to start its commercial operations from 2023.

In 2018 Uber ranked 2nd by CNBC on its list of most disruptive companies in the world.

Over the years it has diversified its core offerings introducing peer to peer rides through Uberpop, Started ride sharing with Uberpool and various other luxery options including uber chopper.

2018 Uber revenue came to $11.3 billion – a 43% increase in 2017, while gross bookings were up 45%, to $50 billion

Eric Allison, Ubers spokesman said the concept had the potential to reduce traffic congestion which costs the Australian economy an estimated $16.5bn a year.

Tim Pallas, The Victorian treasurer, said the announcement was a testament to Melbourne’s record of innovation.

Victorians have a can-do attitude, and we hope Uber Air will give us the altitude to match it, he told reporters in Melbourne on Wednesday.

RMIT University aerospace engineer expert, Matthew Marino said, the concept would potentially be safer than driverless cars.

Ms. Anderson said Victoria’s State Government had been highly supportive of the plans for the flying taxi trial.

“Melbourne is one of the world’s most liveable cities and importantly its innovations like this that demonstrate that we’re at the leading edge of new technologies,” Treasurer Tim Pallas told the ABC.

In the time of cutting edge technology, Uber is certainly not the only company racing to come up with something new and take over skies but also trying to grab the attention of millions.

The German company is all set to test its drone-based vehicle later this year in Singapore.

Air New Zealand has also said it is examining an autonomous electric air taxi service.

Airbus is trailing its own air taxi service using a prototype electric aircraft.
