Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant can do many things. More recently we’ve seen how Amazon has updated it to allow it to send SMS, and also how celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay can now exist on Alexa where he will “critique” your food (basically he just spits out some of his famous lines as a joke rather than actual critique).

However if you’re looking for more practical applications of Alexa, you might be interested to learn that Alexa can now build Amazon Music Playlists for you. Users can ask Alexa to build a new playlist, or they can add songs to existing playlists using voice commands. However all of this is dependent on users being subscribed to Amazon Music in the first place.

If you are already subscribed or if you are a Prime Music listener and/or Amazon Music Unlimited subscriber, then you will be able to take advantage of the feature right away. Alexa support for Amazon Music was added to the iOS and Android app back in 2017, but it is only now that support for playlist creation has been added, which according to Amazon has been one of the most-requested voice features.

Its launch is also rather coincidental, considering that today is also when Apple’s HomePod has been released (in Australia), and giving Alexa more robust music capabilities could be Amazon’s way of trying to stay ahead of the competition.
