Samsung launched a beta program for the Galaxy S8’s Android 8.0 Oreo update a couple of months back. The company has released several beta firmware for the handset since then. It’s now expected to release Oreo for all Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users by the end of this month. There are reports concerning the Galaxy S6 Android Oreo update circulating online and they might not be entirely accurate.
The reports stem from a conversation that a Samsung user had with one of the company’s support representatives. The user asked the support representative if Samsung is going to release Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S6.
The rep mentioned that Samsung will likely begin rolling out the Oreo update later this month and one can assume that the Galaxy S8 will be the first handset to receive it. The rep’s response has been construed by some news outlets as an admission that the Galaxy S6 Android Oreo update will be released in February.
That’s unlikely for two major reasons. There’s nothing to indicate at this point in time that the company is even developing the Oreo update for the Galaxy S6, let alone being close to rolling it out next month.
