GLAS Is A Beautiful Thermostat Powered By Cortana

Johnson Controls and Microsoft have teamed up to build a beautiful smart Thermostat called Glas. This smart home device was first unveiled last year and it features a translucent touchscreen display. Microsoft has now started taking pre-orders for the GLAS. This Cortana-powered thermostat doesn’t come cheap, though.

The translucent OLED touchscreen display is used to control the thermostat’s functions. It can change the temperature, Monitor indoor and outdoor air quality, track energy savings, and perform other functions.

It tracks and monitors multiple aspects of air quality to ensure that the occupants remain comfortable consistently. It also monitors total volatile organic compounds and equivalent carbon dioxide inside a home or building. When connected to the internet, it can also monitor tree, grass, and ragweed pollen count, air quality index, and ultraviolet index.

The GLAS can be controlled by a mobile app or by voice commands using Cortana. The thermostat runs on Microsoft’s Windows 10 IoT Core operating system and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410E embedded processor. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

The GLAS can be installed in most residential and commercial buildings and will support almost all 24VAC heating and cooling systems. Interested customers can sign up for pre-orders at It’s going to cost $319 and pre-orders will go live in March 2018.
