Microsoft Recommends Xbox One X Not Be Plugged Into A Surge Protector

With our electronics costing hundreds if not thousands of dollars, obviously it would be such a shame if they were to be damaged during a thunderstorm, which is why sometimes we turn to Surge protectors to help give our electronics that added layer of protection. However if you were thinking of using it with the Microsoft Xbox One X, think again.

In a tweet by the Xbox Support account, the company has recommended that users not plug their consoles into a surge protector. This is in response to several complaints in which some gamers were discovering that their consoles wouldn’t turn on when connected to a surge protector.

According to Microsoft’s Xbox support page, they note that this is because the console comes with a built-in surge protector of its own, so plugging it into another is redundant and actually reduces the power needed to turn on the console. “Because the console has a built-in surge protector, you should not connect it to an external surge protector. If you connect the console to another surge protector, the console cannot reach the full power that is needed for optimal performance.”

Of course there could be a variety of reasons why your console isn’t turning on, but if you have plugged it into a surge protector, try plugging it directly into the wall outlet and see if that works for you.
