Google makes a pretty robust email app for mobile devices. The Gmail for iOS app is limited to Google accounts, though, but it looks like this is going to change soon. Google has confirmed that it’s testing support for third-party accounts on Gmail for iOS. This will enable the app to function more like the native Mail app on Apple’s mobile devices.
This is going to be a new functionality on the Gmail for iOS app. Android users have already been able to add third-party accounts to the Gmail app for quite some time now. There’s a reason for that, though. Gmail is often the only email app on many Android smartphones so it makes sense.
It’s going to be a big shift for Google to bring this functionality to its iOS app. It will enable users to configure their Outlook, Yahoo, and other email accounts with the Gmail app. Looks like Google wants Gmail to be one of the most popular email clients on iOS.
