Text Notifications May Be Coming To Chromebooks Soon

Google appears to be cooking up some new features for Chrome OS, the cloud-based operating system that powers Chromebooks. According to a new report, Google will soon bring text notifications to Chromebooks. This will provide users with access to their text messages on their notebooks.

A report from ChromeUnboxed mentions that a user has found a Toggle in the developer version of Chrome OS. The toggle is called “SMS Connect.” The explanation provided alongside the toggle states that it allows users to get text notifications on their Chromebook.

The report further adds that before this feature can be activated, users have to activate another setting called “Enable Multidevice features.” Until and unless they do this, the SMS Connect toggle does not show up even in the developer version of Chrome OS.

Even though the feature has been listed in this particular version of the operating system, it doesn’t seem to be active just yet. It’s just a placeholder for now but it does suggest that this functionality may eventually become available on Chromebooks.

This isn’t the only new feature that is due to arrive on Chromebooks. Google is also paving the way to bring its artificial intelligence-powered Assistant to Chromebooks. It’s unclear at this point in time precisely when these features will be released.
