Facebook Messenger is Facebook’s default and pretty much the only way for users to chat with each other at the moment. However it seems that the company could be thinking of building a new app, except that this time this app will be aimed specifically at teenagers that comes with parental controls built into it.

This is based on a report from The Information (via Engadget) who discovered Code inside of the Facebook app that references an unreleased app called “Talk”. In the code it mentions, “Talk is a messaging app where you fully control the contacts.” Then there is also another comment in the code that reads, “Kids love using the creative tools in “Talk” to play games and share fun masks with family and friends.” There is also reference in the code that mentions how kids will use Messenger to talk to their parents.

Also what’s interesting is how it has been suggested that the app might not even require the user to have a Facebook profile. This means that teens who might not be allowed on social media like Facebook will still have an app that allows them to connect to their peers, and perhaps allow their parents to monitor who they might be chatting with.

Unfortunately apart from referencing the app, there is no mention as to whether or not Facebook will actually go through with it and launch it for real. After all the company has been known to test out new features without actually making them a permanent fixture, so it’s hard to tell if “Talk” will become real.
