Facebook Messenger Camera Launched To Rival Snapchat

Facebook has been trying very hard to replicate the success of Snapchat in its various products. We’ve seen features quite similar to what Snapchat already offers being added to both Facebook Messenger and Instagram. The company is making another effort today by launching the new Messenger Camera. It spices up users’ selfies with art and special effects, similar to what you can already do on Snapchat.

Facebook Messenger Camera gets prime positioning inside the app. The shutter button is placed in the center of the screen, one tap is going to take a photo and long press records a video. Thousands of stickers, frames, masks, and effects have been added and users can personalize exactly how they use them.

Special effects and 3D masks will be available for users to spice up their photos and videos with. Facebook says it’s very easy to apply “an artistic filter” to a full-screen photo in order to turn it into a “work of art.” Keeping in the holiday spirit, the special effects and masks allow users to take a selfie and transform into a reindeer or play with falling snow.

Facebook Messenger is even trying to improve text messages, users will find a new palette icon by the shutter which will take them to a blank canvas where they can add art and stickers to their text messages.

All of these improvements for Facebook Messenger are rolling out globally starting today.
