Verizon Will Disable The Galaxy Note 7 On January 5, 2017

galaxy-note-7-design_30Recently Samsung announced that they will be pushing out an update for the Note 7 handset in the US that would effectively kill it. Basically it would Disable all connectivity and stop the phone from charging, which means that once it’s dead it stays dead. All carriers save for Verizon agreed to the update at that time.

Now it looks like Verizon has decided to come on board albeit on their own schedule. According to an email Verizon sent to customers that took them to the carrier’s website, it has been confirmed that come 5th of January, 2017, the Note 7 handset on Verizon’s network will receive the update that would kill the handset.

Note that the other carriers also have their own dates, like T-Mobile is set for 27th December, AT&T for 5th January, and Sprint 8th January. However prior to this Verizon said they did not want to release the update as they were concerned for their customers and how leaving them without a phone for the holiday season was not the best idea.

However it seems that they have finally decided to come on board, so if you still haven’t exchanged/returned your Note 7 handset,  now’s the time to do so lest you end up being stuck without a phone to use.
