Blackberry once used to rule the global mobile market but times have changed. Even some of the organizations that held onto BlackBerry handsets the longest have now started jumping ship. The company’s hardware business has been under constant pressure for the last couple of years and despite rumors of its imminent demise, BlackBerry continues to soldier on. Three years after exiting South Korea’s smartphone market, BlackBerry today confirmed that it’s heading back there with its flagship Android smartphone.

BlackBerry has confirmed today that it’s going to launch its first Android smartphone in South Korea at a launch event that’s scheduled for September 20th. However, the company is not going to establish regional offices like it did the last time around.

It wasn’t the only company that exited Korea due to the very strong position of local darlings Samsung and LG as well as the presence of dedicated Apple fans. Nokia, Motorola, and HTC all took similar steps. BlackBerry now feels that it should give this market another chance.

BlackBerry Priv is the Canadian company’s current flagship handset. Powered by Android Marshmallow, this handset features a Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB RAM as well as a 5.4 inch Quad HD display. One of its biggest features is the full QWERTY keyboard.

Sure, you can certainly get better Android handsets immediately with greater specifications, but if you’re someone in Korea who just wishes to be able to use a BlackBerry again, maybe it’s time that you got excited.
