Facebook Will Soon Let Users Enable Safety Check In Emergency Situations

Facebook has complete control over the Security Check feature right now when lets users mark themselves safe whenever there’s a major natural calamity or terror attack. However, the world’s largest social network will soon change the way how Security Check is activated. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed today that Facebook will soon enable users to Activate Safety Check on their own when in an emergency situation.

The Safety Check feature was launched in 2014 as a way to enable users to inform their network on the social network that they are safe following a natural calamity. This feature was then expanded to cover other emergency situations such as terrorist attacks.

However, Facebook has been criticized for its alleged selectivity in activating the feature, many accused it of preferring to activate the feature only when something happened in the West.

Expanding his answer to the question, Zuckerberg said that the next step is to enable communities to activate Safety Check themselves when there is some disaster. “If we’re building a community product, this is one of the moments of truth for us,” he added.

Facebook is yet to reveal exactly how users or communities will be able to activate Safety Check should something happen but we’ll certainly get all of the information in due time when the feature is ready to be rolled out.
