Skullcandy Rail ANC Earbuds Review

Skullcandy has long been a staple in the mobile industry, renowned for offering cost-effective alternatives to high-end audio gear. As avid followers at Android Guys, we recently got our hands on several models, including the latest addition: the Rail Anc Earbuds.

Design

The design of the Skullcandy Rail Anc earbuds is fairly standard. They feature the typical in-ear design with a teardrop-shaped stem for stability and easy access to the microphones.

The outer portion of the main earbud houses a capacitive panel, adorned with the Skullcandy logo, which allows users to control audio playback, such as play/pause and track skipping. These functions are further customizable through the Skullcandy IQ app.

A standout feature of the premium Skullcandy lineup, including these earbuds, is Tile integration. This means you can track your earbuds using either the Skullcandy app or the Tile app, a feature that is highly beneficial and should be more widely adopted.

Sound

The audio quality of the Skullcandy earbuds is impressive. The 12mm drivers deliver punchy bass along with rich mids and highs. I found the default sound settings to be quite to my liking.

If you don’t care for the out-of-box sound on the Rail ANC earbuds, you can easily launch the Skullcandy IQ app. Just like the touch controls, you can also customize your listening experience. There are a few pre-built profiles, or you can use a virtual EQ to find that sweet spot for your ears.

Battery life

The battery life of the Skullcandy Rail ANCs is perhaps their most noteworthy feature. Rated for seven hours per charge, this claim holds true based on my experience. They easily last through most workdays with occasional breaks.

The great thing is the case charges them as well for a combined 38 hours of total playback. When you need to recharge the entire kit, you get two options: USB-C and wireless charging. Both function as you’d expect, and it’s always a plus in my mind to have the secondary convenience of wireless.

Conclusion

Skullcandy has a compelling product in the Rail ANC earbuds for $100. These wireless earbuds perform well, have great battery life, and don’t void your wallet. Oh, and don’t forget the Tile integration. I wish Skullcandy would release some alternate colors, but otherwise these are a winner.
