We are here with a detailed review of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. It is worth clearing at this point that unlike other manufacturers who distinguish their variants through distinctive features, the two Pixels- Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL remain identical in every aspect other than the display sizes of 5.5-inch and 6.3-inch respectively. So every time we mention any features of Pixel 3, it also automatically applies to Pixel 3 XL as well.

For starters, Google Pixel isn’t like any other flagship. For most phone manufacturers, creating a flagship device means cramming up as powerful hardware as possible. How else would you explain those 8GB RAM, 512GB, storage, and three or even four rear cameras? Google, for its part, takes a different approach- rather than being fixated on hardware, it brings a software-first approach to the table and you would be amazed at the improvements.

Design

There is nothing new here. The pixel 3 has the same old rectangular display while the XL variant comes with a notch- something that you would be able to hide via an upcoming update. The thick bezels and chin do look quite outdated but the great detailing on the back makes it a pleasure to hold.

Performance

On paper, the phone has nothing to boast about. In fact, the modest 4GB RAM and 64GB storage might feel insufficient to some. But it is only after you start using the phone that you can feel the snappiness and would come across a whole range of useful features. The Google Assistant has been deeply ingrained in the device and you can use it for a whole range of tasks. One of the most touted features, however, is the new Google Duplex where you Assistant picks up unknown calls for you and displays the real-time transcripts. This means you won’t ever have to talk to those telemarketers. The battery life too has seen a minor bump but nothing that company can boast about. It would easily last for a day.

Camera

This is where the company has truly flouted its AI expertise and the results are by far better than expected. The camera of Pixel 2 was already one of the finest on the market but Pixel 3 takes it to a whole new level. Using just a single lens, the phone easily stands toe-to-toe with dual cameras of flagships like iPhone XS and Galaxy Note 9. It just makes us wonder what the quality would be if Google had actually included the second lens!

The dual-camera at the front is the best front camera currently available in the market. It delivers perfectly balanced results and the wide angle shots are quite helpful for group pictures.

Overall, Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL are in the way unique flagships that do not sell just hardware and gimmicks but a holistic experience with some thoughtful features. Where the phone lags in hardcore specs, it more than compensates through optimization and AI capabilities. If you are looking to get a new phone, this is a device you won’t ever regret buying.
