Review: Braven Lux Speaker

The Braven Lux made it debut last year and Braven showcased this Speaker as one that combines style, durability and portability all in one. Today, we have the speaker right here to test out and see if it lives up to its claim. The Braven Lux comes in 3 different colors – Gold, Pearl White and Jewel Purple.

The unit we have here with us is the Pearl White variant. Some quick specs of the Braven Lux:

  • Bluetooth Wireless Connectivity + 3.5mm stereo Input and Output
  • MicroUSB charging interface
  • Standard USB port for charging other devices
  • 1400mAh battery to power the speakers and other devices (if plugged into the USB port)

Whilst the speaker is built to impress, by no means does this compromise performance. It has managed to pack two drivers, a passive radiator, and a built-in microphone and speakerphone whilst keeping it water resistant of up to IPX5. The 1400mAh battery is rated to keep going up to 12 hours.

The Braven Lux’s design makes it look so pretty that you could even mistaken it for an art piece from a far. On the top is where the Braven’s logo is located together with a microphone.

On one side are where the controls are located: the volume controls, which double as skip track buttons when held, a power button, and a pairing/call answering and ending/play-pause button.

On the the side, are the ports and battery meter, which indicates how much battery life is left on Lux (each light is ~20%). These are covered by a rubber cap which hence, gives the speaker its water resistant rating.

Since using it for the last month, the Braven Lux falls a little short in terms of Bass, when compared to other speakers of its price range, however, clarity in its highs and mids was superb. Despite its petite size, it still certainly does impress.

In the last month of usage, the speaker has consistently provided me with 9-11 hours of music, depending on both the volume, but also whether if I am connecting via bluetooth or wire. The small 1400mAh battery proved to be little to my BlackBerry Passport, however, but for that little juice you need for an emergency call, this nifty feature could just be a life saver.

All in all, available from USD$99.99 from Amazon or Braven, this speaker is definitely worth the money if your looking for an amazing speaker to impress.

PS: Braven is having a sale now with the discount code: BRVLOVE16 for an USD$20 off any of their speakers above USD$50!
