Even as Xiaomi is busy with its Redmi Note 5A launch, there is news of a joint collaboration with Google for an Android One device.
Reports coming from Indonesia indicate that Xiaomi is working on a modified version of the 5.5-inch Mi 5X. According to news website Krispitech, the Xiaomi device will come with a stock Android UI and not the standard MIUI layer.
Indonesian certification agency POSTEL has apparently listed a Xiaomi device without the MIUI skin. It appears to support dual-SIM and will offer all the features provided by the Android One Platform.
Android One is a family of Android phones designed in collaboration with different manufacturers in an attempt to bring low-cost devices offering rich smartphone experience.
The POSTEL listing should only confirm that there could be an Android One smartphone in the pipeline. And if its a modified version of the Mi 5X, you can expect the device to feature almost identical hardware.
To recollect the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi 5X launched with a 5.5-inch full-HD LTPS display with an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. It had a dual rear camera setup, with a 12MP wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture, and another 12MP telephoto sensor with f/2.6 aperture. There is also a 5MP front camera.
The hardware also included a 64GB inbuilt storage (expandable up to 128GB), fingerprint sensor at the rear panel and a 3080 mAh battery. The device runs on MIUI 9, which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat.
Some reports are speculating that the Android One device could carry the moniker Xiaomi Mi A1. Just recently the RF certification page of the company had the same name listed. For now these are just rumors and soon we will be able to ascertain the details.
