After an abundance of speculation and rumors, Meizu has officially lifted off the covers to its highly touted Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus smartphones to the world, and the result is nothing short of impressive. The two phones are nearly identical in shape with the difference being in their screen-size.

The only place where the two phones differ, is their screens. While the Pro 7 features a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED panel on the front, the Pro 7 Plus features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED panel. The smaller of the two has a 1080p display while the larger has a QHD resolution. On the back, however, both feature the same 2-inch AMOLED display. The real surprise however, is on the rear, where most rumors suggested that the rear display would only show images in black and white to save battery, but it seems it can come to life with color, being no different than the screens on the front of the phones. The display at the rear can be used to control notifications, music and also to snap selfies. This way of using a secondary screen looks better optimized and functional than earlier iterations done by other brands.

Meizu had the idea of installing a secondary screen on the back to prevent users from constantly having to flip their phones for notification anxiety. Traditional phones do not offer the solution of complete assurance in notifications or what they are, but rather just provide a cursory glance. With the Pro 7 line, users will be able to access more details on the secondary screen.

Regarding the internals of the phone, the Pro 7 will feature the Helio P25 MediaTek chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the Pro 7 Plus will be the first phone to feature the 10-core Helio X30 – a 10nm chipset. There will apparently be an X30 variant of the Pro 7 in the future as well according to reports.

The phones will come with the same set of cameras on the front and rear – 16MP front-facing f/2.0 camera and a 12MP dual-camera setup on the rear, with one of the sensors shooting in black and white and the other shooting in colour. They will be based on Sony’s IMX386 sensors. In the battery compartment, the Pro 7 features a 3,000mAh unit while the Pro 7 Plus features a 3,500mAh one, coupled with the company’s proprietary fast charging technology mCharge 4.0 being able to charge a Pro 7 Plus up to 67 percent in just 30 minutes.

For the audiophiles, Meizu has added a dedicated audio DAC, the Cirrus Logic CS43130. The phones will also come with 3.5mm jacks. The phone will support FLAC and APE out of the box for lossless high-quality streaming. The larger of the phones will cost about $500 and the smaller Pro 7 will cost $430 when it is released. The colors of the phones offered, will be in black, gold and red, with variations for the Pro 7 Plus. China will get the phones on August 5, but there has been no word on global availability of the phones just yet.
