We’ve reported before That the new iPhone 7 will almost certainly feature Lightning ports where the 3.5mm audio jack used to be. Outlets have speculated that Lightning compatible headphones or wireless earbuds may be the logical replacements for the popularly used 3.5mm headphones.

However, a new photo has leaked from a Foxconn factory in Vietnam of a Lightning to 3.5mm audio jack adapter. Foxconn is famously a Taiwanese manufacturer of Apple parts. Whether this useful cable will come bundled with the upcoming iPhone 7, which is slated to drop this fall, is unclear.

The cable itself is rather short, with one Lightning end and a slim female port that standard headphones can be inserted into.

A video has also been leaked showing the adapter plugged into an iPad mini that runs iOS 9, which displays a warning notice that the adapter is an unauthorized piece of hardware, Apple Insider reports. The cable may be compatible and authorized on iOS 10. The leaker reported that a warning was not displayed when the adapter was plugged into iOS 10 device.

Another observation to make is that the plastic shielding in which the Lightning end is enclosed is thicker and more robust looking. This may be to address previous complaints that the Lightning wires frayed or snapped too easily.

As Popular Science notes, the photos and video of the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter which have surfaced further confirm that Apple is forgoing the 3.5mm audio jack in favor of Lightning ports with its newest line of iPhones.
