Thousands of apps and games are added to the App Store each week, and trawling through them to find the good ones can be difficult. That’s where we come in! We’ve found two new titles in particular that we think are worthy of your attention, as well as a golden oldie that we reckon deserves another mention.
App of the Week
Jennis [$29/£29 for 3 months]
It might sound like the name of a quirky tennis game, but Jennis is actually the new fitness app endorsed by British Heptathlete Jessica Ennis. Jennis, see? The app isn’t aimed at professional athletes, but rather at providing “high-quality, high-impact exercise combinations that get big results, even when you’re short on time”. There are even dedicated pregnancy and postnatal fitness programmes. Accessibility is definitely the key here, with each 30-minute plan featuring clear instructional videos from Jessica and other experts.
Game of the Week
Dr. Mario World [Free]
The latest mobile game from Nintendo (ably co-developed by Line) is Dr. Mario World, which is essentially Nintendo’s own in-house take on the match-three puzzler. Drag coloured pills onto like-coloured viruses to make them go pop. The skill lies in setting off chain reactions that will then minimize the number of moves you have to play. Add in the usual Nintendo polish, and you have a thoroughly charming – if thoroughly undemanding and unsurprising – time waster.

If you’re planning a trip to a major world city, Citymapper should be the very next app that you download. It’s a brilliantly useful travel tool that provides detailed public transport information for the world’s bustling metropolises, including real time departures and line statuses. It’ll also give you access to underground maps, disruption alerts, and cycle hire information. The best thing is, Citymapper will put all of this to use in getting you from one place to another with a powerful live navigation function.
