Google Pixel and Pixel XL: Specs, Features, Price & Release Date

While the whole iPhone 7 fuss is yet to die down, Google has given us something to talk about. Google has revealed two new phones – Google Pixel and Pixel XL that may likely be alternatives to Apple’s trending iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Previously, Google has been producing smartphones with the brand name ‘Nexus’ and these phones were actually manufactured by other tech companies other than Google even though they were sold with the name Google Nexus.

For its latest flagship, Google has ditched the name Nexus in and has rather adopted the name Pixel. You can recall that Google had previously used the Pixel name on consumer hardware products including its premium tablet and laptop.

For the all new Google Pixel Phone, Google took control of the whole phone making, including the software and hardware. Google refers to the pixel as, the first phone built by Google inside and out.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL: Design

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL phone seems to be an iPhone 6 look-alike. It has carefully sculptured and rounded edges that make the phone easy to grip.

The Pixel has a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on the front display and back glass to accent the aerospace grade aluminum body.

It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, perfectly placed at the back of the phone where your finger expects it.

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL both have a USB Type-C Port, 4GB of RAM, 12MP rear facing camera and 8MP front-facing camera, for the selfie lovers. The Pixel will be available in 32GB and 128GB internal storage models.

Google Pixel users would also enjoy free unlimited storage for photos and videos through the Google Photos app.

Pixel comes in two sizes, 5-inch for the regular Pixel and 5.5-inch for the Pixel XL, and three colors: Very Silver, Quite Black and the limited edition Really Blue colour for U.S. users only.

I forgot to mention, unlike the iPhone 7, the Google Pixel and Pixel XL retained the 3.5mm headphone jack which apple decided to ditch on her latest flagship.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL: Price

The 5-inch Google Pixel Phone would be sold for $649 while its 5.5-inch sibling the Google Pixel XL would be sold for $769.

That’s about the same price range of the iPhone 7. Is Google really up for a competition?

Google Pixel and Pixel XL: Specifications

The regular Google Pixel has similar specs as the XL, but when placed side-by-side, it becomes clear that the XL is the higher end version of the two Pixels.

The Google Pixel has a 5-inch Full High Definition AMOLED display, quad-core 2.0GHz 64-bit processor, 4GB of RAM, 12MP rear camera and 8MP selfie camera with a 2,770mAh battery.

The Pixel would also feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a USB Type-C port.

The Google Pixel XL has 5.5-inch HD AMOLED display (2560×1440) with a quad-core Qualcomm processor, 4GB of RAM, USB Type-C port, and rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Pixel XL has a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera. It will also feature a 3,450mAh battery.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL will both give users an option to choose between a 32GB model and a 128GB model. Google also touts a fast charge of up to 7 hours in 15 minutes.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL: Other Features

Both Pixel phones come pre-installed with the newest Android operating system, Android 7.1 Nougat.

Google also promises that the Google Pixel and Pixel XL phones will get software and security updates as soon as they’re available, directly from Google through an easier process where it will download and install in the background while you use your phone.

The Pixel and Pixel XL also feature the Google Duo and Allo pre-installed so you can video call and text with all your friends, whether they’re on Android or iOS.

If for any reason you detest the idea of an iPhone 7, then the Google Pixel and Pixel XL just might be an option for you considering that their specs were perfectly tailored by Google to have the best integration with Android on the market.

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL phone has the highest rated smartphone camera ever, a battery that lasts all day, unlimited storage for all your photos and videos and is also the first phone with the Google Assistant built in. What more could you have asked for?

You can pre-order today for your Google Pixel and Pixel XL in the U.S, U.K, Canada, Germany and Australia starting at $649 for the regular Pixel and $769 for the Pixel XL. Pre-orders in India will begin October 13.
