Samsung Back in Top 5 Wearable Device Vendors List

Market analyst firm, IDC, has put out it’s latest report that shares the information about the number of Wearable devices manufacturers have shipped in the first quarter of 2016. This information is for the devices sold worldwide. Top of the list is Fitbit with a market share of 24.5%. the total number of wearables and fitness trackers that it managed to sell is at 4.8 million.

Surprisingly, the second spot is occupied by Xiaomi with 3.7 million units sold. The Chinese company who is popular for phones such as the Mi 5 has now entered the wearable segment with the like of Mi band that are inexpensive but work like the $150 fitness tracker.

Apple is at the third position with its aging Apple watch shipping 1.5 million units for the given time period.

Samsung has once again managed to get into the top 5 with its aggressive push of Gear S2. Combined with other wearable devices, the Gear S2, and Gear S2 classic have sold 0.7 million units. But Samsung has no plans to stop. It has recently released the charm fitness tracker inspired by the Fitbit screen less fitness tracker and is also readying the Gear fit 3 along with the Gear S3 for later this year.

“The good news is that the wearables market continues to mature and expand,” noted IDC’s Ramon Llamas. “The wearables that we see today are several steps ahead of what we saw when this market began, increasingly taking their cues from form, function, and fashion. That keeps them relevant. The downside is that it is becoming a crowded market, and not everyone is guaranteed success.”
