iPhone 7 Watertests shine!

Apple has claimed that the Iphone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are water resistant – they have a IP67 rating meaning that the devices can basically survive up to 30 minutes in 1 meter of water.

This is great, but as people have discovered since the new iPhones release, this level of water resistance might have been a little underplayed.

So: just how water resistant the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus seem to be. Maybe… Very.

Earlier on in the week the excellent people over at iFixit performed a live-streamed water test on YouTube. The iPhone 7 lasted 8 hours in a foot of water. The experiment was only ended because 8 hours is the limit of how long you can live stream on YouTube. The phone was still working.

Later on in the week, pro surfer Kai Lenny took the iPhone 7 surfing for 30 minutes, and the iPhone 7 was still working great afterwards. The iPhone 7 did however have noticeable audio issues.

In short, the new iPhones are great at being water resistant. We wouldn’t recommend testing it out yourself, but the occasional dunk in water will likely not harm the device.

Psssst – Did you dunk your iPhone in water/beer/tequila and it’s not an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus? Sell it to us and we’ll give you cash towards buying one that is!! We love water damaged phones. Grab a quote here!
