Smartphones rule the world now and the more that come onto the scene, the better the choice there is for consumers. Each year, dozens of new ones launch, each one trying to be bigger and better than the last one, not just in size but in features as well.
As we await the flood of new ones that are bound to be released in 2014, we have around up of the top ten best smartphones that are available to buy now:
1.iPhone 5S

Released in September 2013, this is the latest in a long line of Apple smartphones and it has to be the best yet.  The new Iphone has the latest A7 64-bit Processor, an additional M7 Motion Control Co-processor and the much heralded Touch ID fingerprint sensor making it top of the list.

Although it still has the 8 Megapixel iSight Camera that the iPhone 4S and 5 have, it comes with a dual LED flash and tons of new features. The iPhone 5S comes in 3 colors – Gold, Space Gray and Silver/White and runs on iOS 7 out of the box.
2.Google Nexus 5

The Google Nexus 5 is one of the most powerful Android smartphones on the market today.  Running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor at a lightning fast 2.3GHz, media playback is super-fast and smooth and the user interface suffers from no glitches or hang-ups whatsoever.
It too has an 8 Megapixel Camera that has been overhauled for flawless photography and it runs on the latest Android, 4.4 KitKat with full support for Google Hangouts and Google Now.
3.Samsung Galaxy Note 3

One of many devices that Samsung released in 2013, this one took their Note range to another level.  It’s a beast of a smartphone with a 5.7”, Super AMOLED HD display that runs on the same processor has the Google Nexus 5.
It has an impressive 13 megapixel camera that can shoot in 4K and it is also the first smartphone to have multi-window display capabilities.
4.LG G2

Not much is heard about LG smartphones but this is one of the best in its class. It has the Snapdragon 800 SoC processor, storage capabilities up to 32GB and 2GB of RAM.  The display is 5.2” with True IPS HD resolution for lifelike imaging.  It also has a 13 megapixel camera that shoots high quality pictures.
5.HTC One Max

When the HTC One was released it was heralded as the best that HTC had released – until the HTC ONE Max came out.  This has the biggest screen in the lineup at 5.9” – heading deep into phablet territory – in LCD with a full HD resolution.  This ensures sharp images and one of the widest viewing angles available on a smartphone.  Sound-wise, it has Company BoomSound speakers at the front which pound out the best sounding beats in the market.
6.Samsung Galaxy S4

The Galaxy S4 is the current flagship model for Samsung and comes in 2 models – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 and the Exynos 5 Octa.  Both feature a 5” Super AMOLED HD display, Android 4.3 JellyBean out of the box and 2GB RAM.  It also has an impressive 64GB internal storage that is expandable.
A 13 megapixel camera and a long-lasting battery complete the lineup for this device, along with a full set of impressive S features.
7.Sony Experia Z1

Sony is no stranger to the smartphone market and the Z1 is just one of several smartphones they have released.  It has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, internal storage of 16GB and 2GB RAM.  The display is a 5” TRILUMINOUS for amazing clear images and the whole thing is sewn up in a body that is both water and dust resistant.
Out of all the smartphones featured here today, this is the only one that can be used as an underwater camera, using its 20.7 megapixel camera and, on top of that, it has good battery life and runs on Android 4.2 JellyBean.
8.iPhone 5C

The iPhone 5C is the “budget” iPhone designed to appeal to those who don’t have such deep pockets. It is a fairly impressive iPhone, pretty much the iPhone 5 in a new wrapper.  The front camera has been overhauled to allow HD FaceTime video calls and has superb low light shooting abilities as well.
As well as all the features the iPhone 5 has, the 5C runs on iOS 7 out of the box and comes in a  range of colors – green, pink, blue, yellow and white. Instead of the usual anodized aluminum and glass, this one is made from polycarbonate over metal.
9.Moto X – 32GB

Running on the updated version of Google Now, the Moto X is the only one in our lineup that features a touch-less interface.  The body itself can be changed to suit your mood with a number of different colored cases, different accents, even a wood casing.
The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.7GHz dual core processor couple up with the Moto X8 energy-saving processor for high-speed.  The battery life is good and it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.
10.Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Similar to the Z1, the Z Ultra has a casing that is both water and dust resistant.   It has the same TRILUMINOUS display, this time in a definite phablet sized 6.4”.  The camera is an 8 megapixel affair, it has just 16GB of internal storage, which seems a little small compared to some of the others and it has 2GB RAM.
