With Apple’s September event at the Steve Jobs Theatre fast approaching, we don’t have long to wait to see all of the new devices they will release. Until then, we have small pieces of information that are fueling all the rumours.

There has been such a small amount of leaded info about the Apple Watch so far this year that it has led many to believe that there isn’t actually going to be an updated watch coming quite yet. Here’s are some of the most intriguing things that we think we know:
- In the watchOS 6 beta, it was reported by iHelpBR that there are watch setup screens for titanium and ceramic cases, for both the 40 and 44 mm watch sizes.
- Filings with the Eurasian Economic Commission, reported by MacRumors, indicate that there are 4 new Apple Watch models coming: A2156, A2157, A2092, A2093.
This led me to think about what previous model numbers have actually been, and can we use that history to say anything more about what is likely coming in a few weeks. Here are the previous Apple Watch model numbers, along with key information about each:

What this table shows is that the key aspects of each model number appear to be the series number (which describes the internal components), case size, and connectivity. The Nike or Hermes models do not have separate model numbers, but rather their model numbers are based on the series, case size, and GPS or cellular capability. So, a single model number could encompass multiple case materials.
Based on this summary, can we deduce what the four new models might be? Here is what I think might happen.
A2092 |
Series 5 |
40 mm |
Aluminum |

A2093 |
Series 5 |
42 mm |

A2156 |

A2157 |

Alternately, these model numbers may just represent two new case materials for each of the two case sizes of the Series 4 models. In this case, these wouldn’t be proper Series 5 watches.
