iOS Shortcuts – Bedtime Automation

I’m finally getting around to playing with the Shortcuts app on iOS, and came up for a great idea to save some time in my nightly routine. I typically use the Bedtime alarm built in on my iPhone, and have it set for 5:50 AM on weekdays. I typically snooze this twice, but just in case that isn’t enough time to wake up slowly, I also separately set a normal alarm for 6:10 AM. Then, I run my HomeKit bedtime scene to turn off my bedroom light. And finally, as I wear my Apple Watch to bed and use the app AutoSleep to track my sleep patterns, I manually set it to Lights Off mode through the app’s widget.

Now, with my newly created shortcut, all of that is behind a single trigger or voice command. It first runs my Home scene to set the lights to Bedtime. Then it activates AutoSleep. Then finally, it evaluates what day it is tomorrow, and if it’s a weekday, it sets my backup alarm to go off. The Bedtime Alarm is automatically set and managed on my iPhone, so it doesn’t factor into this routine.

Here’s the link to my shortcut, if you think this will be of use to you!
