Apple to Use “Full Active LCD” in its Upcoming 6.1-inch iPhone

Nearly a year ago, The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was interested in using Japan Display’s LCDs for some iPhones. Probably, the predictions of WSJ will turn out true.

According to a recent report released by Macotakara, we are forced to believe that Apple will use “Full Active LCD” with ultra-small bezels in its upcoming 6.1-Inch Iphone, which is expected to hit markets in late November.

Full Active LCD for 6.1-inch iPhone: Reports

Macotakara is a supply chain outlet, and therefore, industry insiders rely on its reports. Unlike its two other devices, Apple will release this 6.1-Inch iPhone at reduced prices.

Macotakara reports say that the 6.1-inch iPhone will have Full Active Display from Japan Pixels that boast a “Japan Pixel Eyes” touch sensor.

With a Full Active Display, Apple can manufacture this iPhone with ultra-small bezels. Interestingly, the bezels will be 0.5mm smaller than iPhone X, which has an approximately 1mm bezel.

Four-side narrow frame in 6.1-inch iPhone is also indicated in the report; however, there is no extra information on this. Notably, previous reports painted a different picture as it was rumored that Apple would go for larger bezels than the OLED models for its 6.1-inch LCD model.

Technical experts explain that unlike OLED panels available currently, Full Active LCD panels require smaller borders, i.e., less than 1mm.

In direct contradiction to this, LCD screens installed on iPhones available today have border area of several millimeters, and it cannot be curved, which further indicates that a noticeable bezel area cannot be avoided.

On the release date of the 6.1-inch model, Macotakara says that Apple is facing production issues. Apple has achieved a lower production rate than the “perfect product rate” the company had planned. Thus, Apple is forced to push the release of the 6.1-inch model into November.

Signing off…

Apple will never deviate from its policies to launch high-end models packed with extraordinary features. However, this 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is expected to be the most affordable model launched by Apple this year. Apple’s efforts to win the hearts of consumers are in line with its race to top the list of most valuable US brands. The 6.1-inch LCD iPhone is Apple’s passport to reach the number one position.
