iPhone 8 Sales May Cross 80-90M in Q4 2017: Three Major Factors

Tags: iphone

When Apple sold 75M Iphone 6/6 Plus in Q4 2014, the entire tech universe was in awe of the unmatched aura of the Cupertino-based company. Though the numbers were not too surprising for a smartphone as gorgeous as iPhone 6, they had set a remarkably lofty standard.

Burdened by the massive expectation, iPhone 6s series came a cropper. Despite having a better camera and most talked about the feature called 3D Touch, the 6s model couldn't live up to the expectation. Worse, iPhone sales declined to a record low—due to stiff inflation, cut-throat competition in China and lack of attractive features.

iPhone 8 Sales Can Go Past 80-90M in Q4 2017

Already written off, even before it could see the light of the day and bashed by critics for having the almost three-year-old design, iPhone 7 arrived amid low expectation. Much to the surprise of all, the iPhone 7 did much better than expectation. The smartphone's sales were also bolstered by the unfortunate battery explosion issue of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. However, its sales numbers remained far below than those of iPhone 6.

With iPhone 8 being touted to flaunt radical design and plenty of other eye-catching fire-crackers, many expect the smartphone can't just break the record sales of iPhone 6 but even set an unprecedented record. Considering such an incredible hype surrounding iPhone 8 features, anyone could agree to buy the prediction that iPhone 2017 can shatter all the previous records. But what are the factors that will play a vital role in boosting the sales of the next-gen iPhone?

45-50% iOS Larger Subscriber Base

There are three big factors that are going to have a colossal impact on the sales of the iPhone 8. The first major factor is that the 2017 iPhone has 45-50% larger subscriber base than that of iPhone 6.

Many analysts believe that in Q4 2017, a “supercycle” is going to be created that will play a decisive role in making the iPhone 8 a much bigger and more successful product than the iPhone 6.

With such a gigantic subscriber base, the iPhone 8 is enjoying an ultra-positive Launchpad. Hence, it can be safely predicted that the upcoming iPhone would comfortably cross 75M sales in Q4 2017. If I were to put the numbers head on, I wouldn't hesitate to put it between 80-90M. Moreover, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it even touches the 100M in the last quarter of 2017.

“iPhone unit shipments will post an annual increase of 4% in 2017, followed by an 11.5% jump in 2018.

Apple could ship 90 million or more iPhones in the calendar fourth quarter this year, he said. He's currently modeling for 84.8 million units in the fourth quarter, vs. consensus estimates for 82 million.” – Investor's Business Daily

Brand New Design

We all know how big an impact iPhone 6 made. Thanks to the larger screen and all new design, the smartphone was able to attract not just loyal fans but also critics.

Going by the enormous anticipation, it can be said that fans just can't wait to put their hands on a brand new design.

Features like OLED display, all-screen display, wireless charging and more have already kept millions of fans on the edge. That's not all, the smartphone will come with a vertical dual camera design that will be able to shoot much-improved photos and videos. Unlocking iPhone or making payment with eyes sounds pretty exciting, doesn't it?

The Long Wait

A smartphone as popular as iPhone deserves to have something special to stand out of the crowd. Unfortunately, it has worn the same suit for quite some time. There are many folks who didn't go for iPhone 7 just because it doesn't have a killer look.

In this fast-paced world, looks do matter a lot—if not everything. As the long wait for something really exclusive going to be over, folks are going to line for iPhones as crazily as you can ever imagine.

To top it all, this year the iconic phone is going to celebrate its 10th anniversary. And, loyal fans would love to cash-in-on this great opportunity for a memorable keepsake.

If there are any roadblocks that may hinder the upcoming iPhone from making the record, it would be the higher price and extremely tough competition. However, I expect the smartphone to circumvent all these hurdles and reinvent its legacy one more time!
