Philippine airspace will be put on hold for Maintenance this coming May 17 from 12 MN to 6 AM. This is to ensure that the Air Traffic Management system’s (ATMS) uninterrupted power supply (UPS) will be in good condition.
This was reported by Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Senior Assistant General Manager Bryan Co.
“For May 17, it is the entire Philippine airspace that will be shut down because of the scheduled maintenance or replacement of the UPS of the CNS/ATM for our air traffic management center,” Co said, referring to the Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management.
Philippine Airspace Downtime
Because of this maintenance, Mr. Bryan Co added that “The earlier the airlines can advise the passenger, because of the planned changes in the itinerary. What will happen there is for six hours, there will be no activity in our airspace.”.
However, Co said that they may not need the whole 6 hours for it but have planned for the whole duration. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) also sent out a memo about the said maintenance activity on the 17th.
The ATMS power supply upgrade will make sure to provide their people with seamless ATMS operation which is crucial for air traffic control.
CAAP stated that maintenance work will impact flights at NAIA, Clark, and Mactan-Cebu airports, and the other 42 CAAP commercial airports.
