Schneider Electric’s Go Green in the City Promotes Women Empowerment

Schneider Electric recently launched Go Green in the City, a global business case competition started in 2011, which aims to discover innovative solutions the will help its vision for smarter and sustainable mega cities. It also provides students a chance to practice what they are learning in the classrooms and contribute to a better and safer future.

This year, GGitC promotes diversity by calling out to all-female groups to participate. In fact, a new award called the Women in Business Award will be given to an all-female group who makes it to the top 100 semi-finalists. Recipients of this award will then have a chance to win the top prize by becoming one of the top 12 finalists in the global leg. Each member will receive $500, and the team will given social media exposure plus a chance to be trained by the company’s representatives.

In the last four years of the competition, The Philippines has consistently placed in the top ranks along with China, Germany, and India. In 2013, Filipino students took home the grand prize in the global championship held in Paris, France. Second Runner Up in 2015, First and Second Runner Up in the regional level in 2014 and 2016.

Deadline for submission of entries is on May 12, 2017. The top three finalists who will be representing their countries in the the regional level will be announced on June 9, 2017.  Regional semi-finalists will be announced on July 11, 2017, and the grand winner of each region namely North America, South America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Indian Subcontinent, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States, Greater China, and Asia Pacific will be the ones competing in the global level.

The Top 12 finalists will be composed of 8 regional winners, 3 wildcard entries, and the all-female group will be announced on August 7, 2017 and will be sent to Paris, France to compete in the grand finals. Awarding ceremony will be held on October 9 to 13, 2017.
