Focusing on Touch technologies, the now-third largest smartphone supplier Huawei has unveiled its new 5.5-inch handset at IFA in Berlin. With a design similar to last year's Mate 7, the Mate S introduces a sleeker design with a diamond-cut metal unibody and "2.5D" Gorilla Glass with curved edges. The phone packs a 5.5-inch 1080p display with 1.8M:1 contrast ratio. What's more, Huawei has beaten Apple to the punch by implementing Force Touch technology in the screen, allowing the phone to know how hard you're pressing on the glass.



Along with the Force Touch-like screen, buyers can expect a Kirin 935 chipset with a quad-core 2.2GHz and quad-core 1.5GHz processor, a Mali-T628 MP4 GPU, 13 Megapixel shooter, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of on board flash storage, and two SIM slots. The Mate S also features an all metal design with chamfered edges and a slim profile. At the bottom of the device surrounding the microUSB port are dual speakers. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop comes pre-installed on this device with Huawei’s Emotion UI 3.1 on top of it. The Huawei Mate S measures 149.8 x 75.3 x 7.2mm, while it weighs 156 grams.

One of the major features of the Huawei Mate S is how well it manages data. The handset has two SIM slots, allowing the device to seamlessly transition between LTE connections. It supports up to 13 major LTE bands in the United States, Europe, and Asia.

Pre-orders begin on September 15 and will cost consumers €649 for the 32GB model or €699 for the 64GB handset. There will also be a force-touch enabled 128GB model, but similar to Samsung’s tendencies, it will be announced at a later date.
