Yes, this does seem like an old problem. But that doesn’t mean it’s gone away for many users. In fact, a scan across the forums will see plenty of iPhone 4 users who are still having issues with using their iPhone as a phone.
One user on the O2 forum experienced this issue just last month after upgrading the iPhone’s software (4.3.3). Fellow forum user adamtemp64 recommended setting the device up as a new phone and then restoring from backup to get rid of any software gremlins. Resetting the device and restoring to network settings can also usually alleviate that dreaded “No SIM” or “No Service” message.
This may work for many, but if not, it’s probably best to seek advice directly from Apple. If your phone is still under warranty, you may just walk about with not just an iPhone that works, but a shiny new one too.

When your messages are coming in as they should and you’re able to filter, copy and paste and reply/forward with ease, life is good. If you hit a glitch, you generally also want to hit the nearest hard surface with your iPhone.
Before you do, maybe try the advice given by Apple’s own support pages. In the settings section, try turning on/off other SMTP servers. The Settings > Fetch New Data operation can also help troubleshoot many issues.
If you’re not getting your emails pushed to you at all, this is completely normal for some email accounts so don’t panic just yet!

In some cases, you might have to bite the bullet and delete your email account and start all over again…

Of course, you love your shiny iPhone 4. You treat it well and like to show it off, but you still want it to do what you tell it to without question. Most of the time, for the majority of users, the tell/do relationship works just fine. Until, that is, one day your iPhone decides to fight back and becomes more than a little stubborn.
Sometimes the iPhone will just turn itself off, or it’ll freeze in time refusing to budge to another screen/app. While it’s frustrating at the time, let’s remember your desktop computer may crash from time to time for no real reason.

However, hard resetting your device by holding down the sleep and home buttons for around 20 seconds and then releasing, until the Apple logo appears is usually enough to sort things out. If not, a trip to the experts at the Apple hospital may be called for, as it may be a more deep-rooted problem.
