Eken M001: the cheapest APAD

Tags: android apad

After taking several weeks with this gadget, I'll provide my impressions. The first thing to note is that this is the cheapest in the market APAD: With shipping included can be had for about 80 euros on the Internet.

For if you walk a little lost, do the basic question. What is a APAD? A tablet based on Android. It seems absurd that while in 2010 there were only this happened to the Chinese, the idea has a very promising future. I would say that Android is the operating system of the future for gadgets few benefits, not the OS Chrome disappointing that we want to sell Google. Perhaps fate has wanted to mock the big G, since the systems are owned and both are based on the Linux kernel.

Now go to what interests us, how Android works on this device? For literally work, neither more nor less. Unfortunately, the 300MHz to which it pays the DSP processor 150 and the 120 MB of RAM, fall far short: the relantizaciones are the root of each application, including basic software as may be eBook readers.

Make no mistake, the engine is great to see the e-mail or read the news while we are lying on the couch watching TV, especially if you have a Nintendo DS stylus as it works so great with him. But we must put the record straight: this device is no wonder. Forget about using it to play games, watch YouTube or read eBooks with him.

One big disappointment is the lack of USB ports, since the adapter cable that brings only serves to put files in the ROM like a removable hard drive in question. You read that right, I've written ROM, since despite being a simple flash memory write / read ... if you want to save a file from the web browser APAD will need to have an SD card on a compulsory basis. Luckily had the decency to allow SDHC cards also work, but with this little gadget game they can get these cards. In practice, the SD-only reader I used to install third party applications and quickly view the pictures from my digital camera. Of course, the good news is that when you plug this APAD the computer will serve as a card reader SD / SDHC.

Another thing to note is that the system comes with Android 1.6. Forget about upgrading to 2.1: You can not possibly. First is that the ARM7 processor, and literally "does not pull." The Android 2.1 would be ideal to have an ARM11. The second is that from Eken have not released the kernel sources have been used to perform the port of Android ...making it necessary that the scene has to reverse engineer one day to reach that dream. What impact does using Android 1.6? All of a sudden, you can forget you define the number of desktops (although there are unofficial roms permit), and to facilitate internet via USB Tethering. Also, although to a lesser extent, you will see that there are currently only applications 2.X. Android

Regarding the battery, the comments of internet ensures that lasts two to two and half hours. My usually usually lasts me about three hours, but a trickle. There is a video of a hack which shows how to replace the battery for a similar gadget lithium, extending its duration to twelve hours.HXGNFHCFEWVA

My recommendation? Do not buy some one APAD. The first models that are emerging are quite disappointing, since only allow for basic use.
